Guidelines & Submission Form

By the time she was eight years old and living in Sherman Oaks, California, Dolores Hope Masi had become accustomed to seeing movie stars. Nothing however, prepared her for the special relationship she would have with one of the world's legendary icons, Marilyn Monroe. Instantly the two hit it off with Marilyn becoming like a surrogate aunt. They would go shopping together, go to the beach, sneak into the movies, trade secrets and play dress up for hours. When Marilyn returned from trips she would bring gifts back for her young friend. Dolores saw a completely different Marilyn than the rest of the world and she saw it not only in her own front yard but also in her house. To avoid the glare of Hollywood, Marilyn would stay at the Masi house for long periods of time, sometimes alone, sometimes with her husband, Joe DiMaggio. It was during this time that Marilyn became almost like a member of the family, spending weekends, holidays, and birthdays with Dolores and her parents. It's no wonder that even after Marilyn and Joe divorced, she continued to stay at the Masi house. These are the types of memories that are treasured by Dolores Hope Masi - and after fifty years she is ready to share them with the rest of the world.

Once in a lifetimethat pretty much describes a period of time in Dolores Hope Masi's childhood when she had a very special friendMarilyn Monroe, whom she referred to as, "My Marilyn." This collection represents the accumulation of items given to Dolores by Marilyn during that time, items ranging from jewelry to clothes to never before seen photographs. Marilyn's generosity was unmatched and Dolores was usually the lucky recipient of clothes from Marilyn's personal closet or wardrobe from her many movies, as well as jewelry from own collection and pieces from her movies, like the earrings and bracelet from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" or the sexy black chiffon blouse from "Asphalt Jungle." For fifty years Dolores kept these items, lovingly taking care and protecting them but now she feels it's time to share these memories and keepsakes of Marilyn with the rest of the world, so she created The Marilyn Collection. The finest designers and manufacturers have recreated this collection from the original items Dolores owns. The photographs, some having never been seen before, are limited edition giclee prints on acid free museum paper, beautifully matted and framed. Dolores has recently restored a rare, never before seen 8mm home movie of Marilyn learning to play golf. All in all, The Marilyn Collection is a chance for everyone to own a piece of show business historya chance to wear something that inspires stories and encapsulates the memories of the legendary Marilyn Monroe.
